The best goal of the year in hockey was scored earlier today. It was not a goal from the NHL. Wasn't an overtime goal either. It was Finland against Russia in the IIHF World Championship game. During a 0-0 tie in the second, Finnish player Mikael Granlund took the puck behind the net. The puck went on edge so Granlund let it rest on the blade of his stick. He then neatly tucked the puck into the top right corner of the net to give Finland the 1-0 lead. http://watch.tsn.ca/featured/clip466646#clip466646. A gorgeous goal in the important Semi-Final matchup of the tournament. And yes. The goal looks even better in a still frame. http://yle.fi/ecepic/neon3/archive/00406/Mikael_Granlund_406086b.jpg. Right now the score is still 1-0 after 2 periods of play in Bratislava. So this might end up being the nicest, most important goal of the tournament. Lacrosse is an awesome sport. Especially in hockey.
Edit: Finland maitained the shutout and beat Russia 3-0 so Granlund's goal goes as the winner. Good going Mikael.
