To start off:
HOLY CRAP! WHAT A GAME!!!!
It is now 1:18 on Wednesday morning. Alex Burrows just capped off an unusual night for him (goal, missed penalty shot, turnover that led to tying goal with just minutes left, almost fatal penalty early in overtime, game winning goal in OT in game 7)
I am still hyped about this epic game and have a few more statistics that may seem great for this years first round.
Today was the eighth day in a row that there was a game that went into overtime. The sudden death in the playoffs is a thing in sports that may be the most exhilarating. And to have an opportunity 8 days in a row to see such great games such as these is truly historic. There are 2 more game 7's tomorrow night. Boston-Montreal and Pittsburgh-Tampa Bay. It's on everyones mind: make it 9 nights in a row!
Also, this was the 13th overtime in the first round. 13/47 of the games so far. This is the second most out of any playoff season since 2001 when they had 15 overtime games in the first round. There are still two more games to be played and this total may be equaled.
This first round has been memorable for hockey fans around the world. I'm sure the rest of the post-season won't disappoint us.
