The 2011 Stanley Cup Finals started off with a bang tonight. Both goalies, Tim Thomas and Roberto Luongo, were unbeatable. It literally took over 59 of the 60 minutes in the game to have a goal scored. And that goal was a beauty which was just about the only thing a goalie would give up tonight. A great play through and through.

The gorgeous play by the Canucks and the sweet goal by Torres finally sent Rogers Arena rocking. But there were other great moments in the game. For instance a possible suspension coming up. I mentioned here http://robinsnest-yoro.blogspot.com/2011/06/colin-campbell-resigns-from.html that there is a new head of disciplinary actions. In that case Brendan Shanahan already has something to deal with. Alex Burrows took a bite out of Patrice Bergeron's finger. Bergeron said he was bit underneath the fingernail on the right index finger and he needed to take anti-biotics as a precaution. Watch the altercation here:

So as always I'll keep you updated on this story.
But also another several exciting moments which displayed hits and scrums:

And scrums like this were happening literally all night.

So all these things were great but I want to go back to the goaltending which was fantastic by both teams. Tim Thomas and Roberto Luongo played so well tonight and it impressed all the analysts. Usually when a game goes into overtime, players and fans on twitter tweet their prediction from either team of who will score. So I was assuming twitter would be filled with "I have Thomas for Boston and Luongo for Vancouver" jokes. That's how good they were. They did all this so far in the game and the only thing left for them to do was to score a goal. Oh well. Maybe we'll get our marathon overtime game in game 2.
